Two-time defending half-marathon champ Tyler Chacra of Oakville finished third in the event's signature race, crossing the finish line in 1:16:45 -- one minute and 26 seconds behind winner Victor Gatundu of Burlington. Local runners swept the other titles up for grabs in the half-marathon, 10-kilometre and 5K races. Julie Martens was top female in the half marathon (1:26:23); Michael Gill (32:43.7) and Colleen Coxon (42:13.1) were the top male and female finishers, respectively, in the 10K race; and David Gallant (17:20.3) and Brittany Pan (22:10.1) claimed top male and female honours in the 5K. Sunday's ninth annual event attracted 1,538 runners and walkers, helping raise more than $50,000 for 11 charity partners: the Canadian Cancer Society, Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada ­ Halton Chapter, Girls Inc of Halton, Oakville & Milton Humane Society, Oakville Parent Child Centre, Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, SOAAR For Autism, The Arthritis Society, and YMCA of Oakville. "We are extremely pleased with the overall participation from both spectators and participants, our volunteers and of course this amazing weather," said race logistics manager Krystal Duz. "It is always great to see this event turn out this great after planning for 365 days." Sunday's ninth annual Nutrience Oakville Half Marathon featured a new overall champion and five local winners. Oakville Minor Lacrosse Association product Dan Dawson scored twice and Oakville Rock senior A player Stephan Leblanc added a single as Canada defeated the Iroquois Nationals 12-8 Sunday in the final of the world indoor lacrosse championships in Syracuse. Oakville natives Jordan MacIntosh, Chris Corbeil and Paul Dawson (Dan's younger brother) were also part of Canada's championship-winning squad. "We're very proud of the heritage of the Canadian game and where it comes from," Dan Dawson, Canada's captain, said of his country's 23-0 all-time record at the world championships.
