Born February 21, 1932 in Toronto, ON and raised there by parents Eva and John Novak, originally from Lublin, Poland. Helen is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Michael and Edward and her son, Daniel. Beloved wife of John Blackburn for 63 years raising family in Oakville, ON. Cherished Mom to Debra, Patrick (Sandy), Edward and daughter-inlaw Ellen (Dan). Amazing Gramma to Kendra (Paul) Stefankiewicz, Nichole (Nathan) Long, Meredith, Samuel, Spencer and Fraser. Loving Great Gramma to Charlotte and Evelyn of Nichole & Nate. She will be missed by her extended family and friends, especially long time best friend Lee Barker. Helen held many interesting jobs during her working years as a proof reader, manufacturing line worker, store clerk, commercial cleaner, office administration and secretary, but her unsurpassed position was as a domestic engineer (homemaker) with complete devotion to family showcasing her skills and passion in cooking delicious elaborate meals and always being there even before asking. Her passion extended to her stunning gardens, as a voracious reader, especially mysteries and her eclectic love of music. Words fail in expressing our loss. A very special thank you to ER Staff, ICU Nurses, especially Seepa and Doctors, especially Drs. Partridge and Kohli at OTMH. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will take place Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville. Condolences through www.koprivataylor.com Edna immigrated to Canada in 1969 with her husband John from Newcastle, England and with her sister Marj., owned and operated the Chantry Hairdressing Salon in Bronte for over 30 years. Hairstyles and haircuts were the reason their customers came, but lifelong friendships were forged with the warmth and character that welcomed everyone as if they were family. Throw in some political banter, a touch of gossip, some personal experiences and strong shoulders of support, many, many cups of tea and always a profound and generous sense of humour that made the Chantry a mainstay in the Bronte Business Community and made the sisters beloved in the area for decades. Edna will be remembered for her love of travel and culture, history and her unique passion for all things inspired on the Las Vegas strip. Most of all, Edna will be remembered for her tireless devotion to her family, her unwavering strength and compassion, her selflessness and her integrity that were singularly her own. A Memorial Service and reception will be held in Edna's honour and in celebration of her life at KOPRIVA TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario L6K 1E1, on Sunday October 4, 2015 at 3 p.m. The family would like to deeply Thank the tremendous staff at Ian Anderson House for the care and support they gave to Edna and her family.
