File Photo by Barrie Erskine CALL FO R NOM INATIONS MOHA deadline Thursday While the NHL is still very much in the process of determining its playoff champion, Oakville's Minor Oaks Hockey Association (MOHA) is already gearing up for next year ... DEADLINE THURSDAY MOHA administrator Nancy Brooks is urging all parents to get their children registered for the 2001/02 season. Deadline for guaranteed playing time is Thursday (May 31). After this date, an additional $25 late fee will be added to the registration fee, and players will be put on a `wait list' with no guarantee of suffi cient ice time to look after the late registrants. NEW TYKE REP TEAM MOHA has decided to again offer a rep pro gram at the tyke level after a one year absence. A second rep team may also be added, depending on ice time. A dramatic cut-back in travel time was a motivating factor. But the league promises that the main emphasis will still be on skills develop ment, with a responsible practice to game ratio. MOHA is anxious to hear from coaches inter ested in the tyke program. Applications are avail able from the league office at (905) 338-9220. Following the recommendations of the '99 Hockey Summit, MOHA withdrew from the competitive tyke category and, instead, enlisted coaches Brad Rush and Steve Percy, who did an excellent job with a large group of tyke house leaguers, emphasizing skills development in their tyke level development program. Many of the boys in this program have filled the ranks of the two minor novice teams for next season. MOHA is most appreciative of the time and effort Brad and Steve put into the tyke devel opment program. NEW BANTAM A TEAM MOHA is happy that more of its players are remaining in the system, so much so that they will offer a bantam A team for next season in the Tri-County league. Ten players have already been signed, with another seven to be added after tryouts com mencing Aug. 25. Coaches are needed. Applications are avail able from the league office at (905) 338-9220. PRE-SEASON SCHOOL The annual MOHA Mitron pre-season hockey school will take place at Glen Abbey Arena the week of Aug. 20-24. Reservations can be made at (905) 825-5635. More than 60 boys were turned away at the April pre-tryout school. MOHA urges early booking to avoid disappointment. GETTING YOUNGER O f interest to all parents and players was the recent announcement at the Canadian Hockey Association annual meeting that age limits in all categories have been lowered by one year, com mencing in the 2002-03 season. As an example, players playing minor peewee this season will be playing minor bantam in 2002/03. As well, midget play will see 15, 16 and 17-year-olds playing together. 5th Annual ROYAL BANK Strong leadership is and will continue to be one of the cornerstones of Royal Bank' s success. The Athena Leadership model is a blueprint of the qualities skilled leaders require. True leaders are people who are courageous, authentic, focused and committed to the development of others, the community and of themselves. While many people have natural leadership qualities, it is the nurturing, guiding and developing of these qualities, by others, that helps them to become outstanding leaders. This, in fact, is mentoring and is a very important part of the Athena Leadership model. A successful mentoring program guarantees strong future leaders not only within an organization by in society. Royal Bank is proud of our relationship with Athena and know that our sponsorship will support the recognition of successful mentors in Oakville as well as encouraging others to assist in the development of our future leaders. The ATHENA Award program celebrates the potential of all women as valued mem bers and leaders of the community and recognizes those who support them. The ATHENA Award honours individuals who strive toward the highest levels of profes sional accomplishment... women and men who have demonstrated excellence in their profession, have devoted time and energy to their community in a meaningful way, and most especially, have generously assisted women in attaining their full potential.
