The team plans to begin responding to calls again on June 8th, continuing to the end of August. `T m hoping with the district response team we can keep a lid on this...it is a liquor establishment, and there are problems that go along witji it," he added, pointing out that Sharkey's is not necessarily the centre of the trouble. "The Tim Hortons and Pizza Pizzas of the world want to share the responsibility," said Yates, noting that customers leaving Sharkey's at closing often flock to late-night franchises in the area, giving them ample time and space to embrace violence or van dalism. The shortage of taxis in Oakville means longer waits, which gives inebriated customers an even longer time to linger. However, one resident testi fied that customers "must be driving home drunk," judging by the "drag races" and sounds of squealing tires in the wee hours of the morning. "I see it as an area problem," said Sgt. Wilkinson, reinforced by the residents' testimonies of late-night activity all along Lakeshore and side roads, as far east as Kerr Street. "The vibrance of this downtown core is attract ing people from all over the GTA," Yates said. "Everything has ramifications, as it is such an open harbour area." Neighbourhood residents also recounted stories of individuals jumping off the Lakeshore bridge and launching rocks at boats lining the harbour. When the meeting adjourned, Councillors, Sgt. Wilkinson and Yates took away `to-do' lists, with a goal to strike off every item in two months time. "It's a little bit like writing an exam...you will be measured by what you do," said Moxness at the conclusion of the meeting, adding on a positive note that Sharkey's seemed willing to work towards a feasible solution, and the Town willing to monitor their progress. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for July 26. Xihe. IN V ID IA TA f 2 iO L Financing maximum 48 months OJLC.
