The Kerr Street After-School Program (KSAP) gives kids like 10year-old Amy a place to go while her mom works on-call shifts at the hospital. With as few as 10-hours a week of paid employment, it's hard for Amy's mom to afford not just childcare, but sometimes even groceries. Being able to use the KSM food bank eases that strain on the family. At Kerr Street Mission when we meet the needs of a whole family, we're helping each child have hope for a better tomorrow. "Many families need just a little help to get them through a rough patch in their lives while many are so far behind or in debt, they cannot see their way clear." Starting Saturday, food donations can be dropped off at Fare Share collection bins located in all Oakville grocery stores, at all Oakville Fire stations, and the food bank itself. For a list of this season's most-needed items, visit www. oakvillefoodbank.com/needed-items. Monetary donations are also accepted as they are vital to the food bank's existence, according to Fare Share organizers. Donations are used to buy perishable food items, such as chicken, ground beef, ham, sh, cheese and fresh and frozen vegetables and fruit. As well, a large portion of the money pays for vouchers provided to families with children to use at local supermarkets for items, such as milk and eggs. Fare Share is a registered charity and can issue tax receipts for donations. The food bank is open to its clients on Mondays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and Thursdays, 3-7 p.m. All clients are initially interviewed to ensure they qualify and then regularly to determine if their circumstances have changed.
