As a follow-up to the Oct. 6 all-candidates' debate hosted by the chamber at Glen Abbey United Church, candidates were invited to provide answers to four business-related questions, as well as submit a summary on themselves and/or their party platform. The responses received were posted at www. oakvillechamber.com/packed-house-for-2015candidates-debate-in-oakville/. The four questions were: · In your opinion, what are Oakville's top infrastructure needs and how does your party plan to address them? · What measures would your party pursue to ensure Oakville manufacturers can compete globally? · How will you and your party fill the growing gap in skilled trades? And in particular, how will you attract young people to the trades? · Would you please define "middle class?" And how would Oakville families and businesses benefit from your policies? Halton Region runs its own questionnaire Halton Region sent a questionnaire to fed eral election candidates asking them how they would respond to growth-related issues feeing Halton if elected to Parliament. The Region has asked candidates to outline their position on the following top five growthrelated issues: · meeting our community's infrastructure needs; · adapting and responding to climate change; · creating real and affordable housing solu tions; · building a strong economy, and · ensuring adequate, high-quality child care and early learning options. The questionnaire is part of the Region' s ongo ing advocacy efforts to address the need for in creased funding and legislative changes in order to meet provincially-mandated growth targets. The issues highlighted in the questionnaire, as well as the importance of support from all levels of government, have been identified as priorities by Regional council.
