Brammar is remembered for her friendly smile continued from p.21 For Brammar, being recognized is an added bonus and "icing on the cake." "She did it because she loves it. Sometimes Jane shies away from being recognized because she really does do things because she enjoys it or for her own reasons," said Loeb. "Being honoured brings closure to a longterm passion of hers. It helps her realize her impact in the community, which I think is really great." Montague was inspired to give Brammar an award after hearing her story. "When I heard she was retiring after 20 years, my mom and I looked at each other and we were like, `We have to get her to the gala. We have to give her a dedication award for all these years,'" said Montague. "She's just so friendly in her community... the friendliness and smile that she gives," he said. Tim Robertson, Sam Mead and Rosemary Cumby also received dedication awards. The idea for the gala came to Montague and his friends several years ago while watching the Oscars. They wanted to create a similar event, but they customized it to their liking. The event planner hosted the first ceremony at his house, which grew in popularity as the next two galas were held at the Holiday Inn Oakville -- drawing in 32 and 80 people, respectively. "When I was watching the Oscars, I wanted to award my friends. I said to my mom, `Could we do a gala for my friends?' We talked about it and it actually happened. I hosted the first annual (All Star Awards Gala)," said Montague. Last year's ceremony, which attracted 160 people, was a "great success," Montague said, noting there were 70 award winners and multiple performers including Brennan. "I (was) quite happy with the turnout and I'm very happy with the turnout this year," said Montague. "First we had 10 people, then we had 32, then we had 80 and then we had 160. Now we have 210. It has really grown." 23 | Thursday, October 15, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com TTA Rehab & Spa 5th Year Anniversary Sale Massage $49.99/Session Reflexology $29.95/Session Book now limited time slots available www.ttarehab.com 905-339-0988 · 630 Ford Drive Unit 2, Oakville ON L6J 7V7 FREE RING © 2015 Pandora Jewelry, LLC · All rights reserved · PANDORA.NET OCTOBER 125 WITH PURCHASE OF ANY TWO PANDORA RINGS* FREE RING MUST BE OF EQUAL OR LESSER VALUE BRAMALEA CITY CENTRE 25 PEEL CENTRE DR, BRAMPTON 905.792.8820 SQUARE ONE SHOPPING CENTRE 100 CITY CENTRE DR, MISSISSAUGA 905.232.0661 ERIN MILLS TOWNE CENTRE 5100 ERIN MILLS PKWY, MISSISSAUGA 905.282.5902 MAPLEVIEW CENTRE 900 MAPLEVIEW DR, BURLINGTON 905.632.5400 *In Store Only.
