Mental health association enhances services The Canadian Mental Health Association Halton Region Branch (CMHA-HRB) recently enhanced its services for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Earlier this month, the local CMHA branch launched a new system allowing anyone with a teletypewriter (TTY) machine to communicate and receive information and support, much like instant messaging or texting. Callers can use the TTY number to access all CMHA-HRB services, including the COAST crisis line. "We are excited that this new system will make it easier for people who are deaf and hard of hearing to get the help they need," said Radhika Subramanyan, CEO of CMHA-HRB. "It is an important step towards ensuring that everyone in Halton who needs support for mental health and addiction concerns is able to reach out to get those services to improve their health and wellness." TTY callers can reach CMHA-HRB at 1-844646-1700. Regular office hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. The COAST crisis line is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week. CMHA-HRB provides support, including case management, crisis support and free walk-in counselling, to people who have mental health or addiction concerns, as well as education about mental health, wellness, and addictions, and information about community services.
