The first of the four-concert series, Greece and Germany, is set for Saturday (Oct. 17) and Sunday (Oct. 18). "Greece and Germany have been in the headlines for some years now. While they are a long way apart geographically, there are historical ties and long standing cultural exchange," stated a media release. "Come hear some fantastic music and explore this complex cultural relationship." The concert program includes: skalkottas (five Greek dances); Bach's Concerto for 2 Harpsichords, featuring soloists Ronald Greidanus and Matthew Pope; Mendelssohn's String Symphony No. 12 in G minor; and various composers featuring Greek folk songs and dances. The Saturday performance starts at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's United Church, 262 Randall St., while the Sunday show begins at 3 p.m. at St. Simon's Anglican Church, 1450 Litchfield Rd. This season's featured OCO Youth Concerto Competition Winners are: (in the junior category) pianist Catherine Ma (grand prize winner) and violinist Tiffany Yeung (second place); and (in the senior category) cellist Michaela Johns (grand prize winner); and pianists Tiffany Tse (second place); Leslie Ashworth (third place), and Thomas Dobrovich (fourth place).
