"Almost 10 years ago, I had a vision of a studio space that created opportunities for people to feel safe and supported as they looked inside and discovered different parts of themselves. Yoga was one doorway into the self that I knew well," said Robyn Bowman, owner and director of Creating Space Yoga Studio. "I am now excited to introduce music as a way to stir souls." Opening up the CSY Music Series tomorrow (Saturday) will be Duo Calixa, featuring flutist Kelly Williamson and guitarist Mariette Stephenson. The duo formed in 2012. A graduate of McGill University and the University of Montreal, Williamson is a specialist in flute pedagogy and has been invited to teach at workshops all over the world, most recently in Peru, Mexico and Japan. Stephenson holds degrees from the University of Toronto, Royal Conservatory of Music and McMaster University, and has given recitals throughout Canada. She also teaches music. Both musicians have appeared with other ensembles, including solo performances with orchestras and various chamber formations. "As a duo, they share an enthusiasm for the music of Latin America and are starting their partnership by celebrating that repertoire, as well as covering standards of the flute and guitar repertoire, and investigating the music of the Japanese composer Miyagi," according to the duo's online biography. The intimate concert starts at 7 p.m. at the 594 Chartwell Rd. studio. The event is open to the public, however, seating is limited. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased in advance at http://goo.gl/QfSNDp. The next concert in the CSY Music Series will feature Brazilian guitarist Paulo Martelli on Jan. 16, 2016.
