Meanwhile, Conservative candidate Effie Triantafilopoulos told the Oakville Beaver in a phone interview at 12:20 a.m., she was disappointed with the results of the election, but "the voters have spoken and I respect the results." Triantafilopoulos, who was about to head over to Damoff's party to congratulate her, added she appreciates the support she received from the community. Earlier in the night, as the Liberals headed towards a majority, Green Party candidate Adnan Shahbaz said he was happy with the direction the election results were moving in. "I'm excited that Canada is moving away from politics of fear and division," he said. With Damoff ahead in the polls, Shahbaz noted she would be a great voice for the community and he wishes her all the best. Shortly after, Libertarian candidate David Clement told the Oakville Beaver in a phone interview the local race was reflective of the national race between the Liberal and Conservative parties. "I think Canadian voters have showed now that the Conservative approach isn't what they're looking for and I think that runs through, whether economically or socially," he said, noting the Conservative record with regards to the economy and Bill C-51 and the niqab didn't work in the party's favour. Clement added it's been a great race and a rewarding experience for him. NDP candidate Janice Best could not be reached for comment. Voter turnout in the Oakville NorthBurlington riding was 69 per cent, which was in line with the country average of 68 per cent. Of the ballots reported cast, Damoff received nearly 47 per cent of those votes (27,852), Triantafilopoulos had 43 per cent of votes (20,880), Best had seven per cent of votes (3,684), Shahbaz had nearly two per cent of votes (808) and Clement had one per cent of votes (527).
