Halton police Sgt. Chantal Corner said officers received several calls about the incident that took place around 1:20 a.m. at the playground near the tennis courts at Glen Abbey Community Centre on Third Line. Corner said the slides were fully engulfed in flames, however, Oakville firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly. Police believe the fire was set deliberately because an accelerant was used, said Corner, adding there was about $1,000 in damages. The playground is closed to the public with yellow tape and an orange plastic fence. Corner said police are investigating and trying to identify a suspect. "If there was anyone in the area at the time or before, and may have noted anything suspicious, please contact Halton police," she said. "Any extra information is good information."
