Southwest paramedic station gets green light by Julia Le Oakville Beaver Staff 19 | Thursday, October 22, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Plans to build a paramedic station to improve EMS response times in southwest Oakville are a step closer to reality. On Oct. 14, Halton Regional Council endorsed a land use concept for a new EMS facility to be located on Woodside Drive behind the Oakville Public Library Woodside Branch at Rebecca Street and Woodside. "The paramedic station is required to address a noticeable gap in the critical five-minute response time coverage in southwest Oakville," a related Halton Region report states. It will be developed in two phases with the design and construction of the paramedic station planed for next June, according to the report. Discussions with the public on the proposed station began in September 2013 after the A new paramedic station has been given the green light to be located on Woodside Drive behind the Oakville Public Library Woodside Branch at Rebecca Street and Woodside. | screenshot of report Region purchased the former St. Hilda's Church property at 1258 Rebecca St. The report outlines residents expressed concern over the initial site, which was planned for a 0.3 acre portion of the former church lands fronting onto Rebecca Street. Residents, it stated, also questioned what would be developed on the remaining 1.7 acres of the site. Last year, Regional staff worked with Town of Oakville staff to address the concerns of noise, traffic and compatibility of use. The revised concept, which will see the Region and the Town exchanging lands, was presented to residents at a public meeting last month. Along with the relocation of the station to front onto Woodside Drive, the Regional report outlines the remaining lands fronting Rebecca Street will be developed as three lots for single detached homes and a block for a future assisted living development.
