It has been praised as "an intimate epic and tightlyfocused narrative set against one of the most powerful economic forces of the 20th century. Like Gillmor's last novel, Mount Pleasant, Long Change explores the intersection of money and life, the heady false promises of success and the bitter inevitability of failure." The National Post. · In Conversation with Robert Bateman (Nov. 5): Bateman is one of the world's premier wildlife artists, as well as a naturalist and an environmentalist. From his home on Salt Spring Island, B.C., his work is known across the globe. An Order of Canada recipient and holder of countless honorary doctorates, he is one of Canada's greatest living treasures. His soon-to-be-published memoir, Life Sketches, "is a moving journey in both words and images that, for the first time, allows Bateman's fans full access into his creative process, detailing his singular artistic vision and the inspiration behind his iconic art." Simon & Schuster. This event is presented in partnership with the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and Burlington's A Different Drummer Books. · An Evening with Sonia Faruqi (Nov. 26): Following a whim, debut author Faruqi decided to take a break from the hectic pace of Wall Street and volunteer for two weeks on an organic dairy farm outside Toronto. That decision proved to be both eye-opening and life-changing, so she decided to expose the unknown truth about factory farming through writing. Her recently published book Project Animal Farm "dives into the depths of the animal agriculture industry and emerges with some important messages and inspiring suggestions on the future of food." Food Tank. · An Evening with Douglas Gibson (Dec. 3): Gibson is a prominent figure in the Canadian literary world having worn the hats of writer, editor and publisher.
