Quinn Cruise, who is deaf, works at the Taste Marketeria in Bronte Harbour in Oakville. The Burlington resident has been selected as one of eight chefs worldwide to compete in Copenhagen in Deaf Chef International, which runs today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday). The event challenges deaf chefs to complete a three-course meal with both required and optional ingredients. "My first thought was, what am I going to do with pork tongue?" Cruise said in a press release, after receiving the required ingredient list. The competition was developed in 2014 to offer deaf chefs the opportunity to showcase their skills while meeting other deaf culinary professionals from around the world. Quinn was also selected to compete last year and had said she found the level of competition to be "extremely high."
