Work out the vocal chords with workshop before Halloween Before heading out for Halloween, Oakville's Musikay wants to teach budding performers proper vocal technique and how to sing in tune tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 31). The workshop is the third of the professional ensemble's series The Con dent Chorister and takes place at the Grace Lutheran Church, 1107 Main St. W., in Hamilton. At 10 a.m., participants will learn the history of vocal technique, how the voice actually works, and proper singing method. They will also be able to bring home ef cient warmup exercises and an easy to implement singing approach for long-term vocal health. At 2 p.m., those who attend the workshop will learn how to sing in tune in different settings, such as singing with a piano, a cappella or with an orchestra, and learn how to recognize the differences, and adjust pitch quickly and on demand. The workshops are for singers of all levels, teachers and conductors. To purchase tickets for the workshop, visit www.musikay.ca/ con dent-chorister-vocal-technique or call 905-825-9740 for more information. Founded in 2005, Musikay aims to bring high-quality, classical music performances to the local community and beyond. Led by maestro Stéphane Potvin, the ensemble performs music ranging from orchestral concerts, a cappella choral music programs and combined presentations by both choir and orchestra. 19 | Friday, October 30, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com How to get the bene ts of skincare oils Beauty oils are a growing trend. In a recent survey, more than half of Canadian women said they use or intend to use a beauty oil in the next 12 months. Of those already using oils, more than half report that they are using them both morning and night. Why are oils becoming so popular? According to TV beauty expert Chantel Guertin, people are starting to realize their many bene ts to help keep skin in top condition. "Whether it's a cult favourite like BioOil or a new oil-based skincare range like Lipidol, oils are a great way to leave your skin nourished and glowing," says Guertin. "I love them because they moisturize, protect and hydrate." To combat the drying effects of winter weather and indoor heating systems, Guertin recommends switching to oilbased cleansers like those from Lipidol. "Typical foaming cleansers contain harsh agents that can strip skin of moisture, but Lipidol cleansing body and face oils hydrate while they cleanse," she says. "The body heals itself when we are sleeping, so this is a great time to try incorporating an oil into your skincare regime," says Guertin. "The Lipidol overnight face oil feels luxurious and, when you wake up, your skin looks like you've had a facial."
