Oakville Legions kick off annual Poppy Campaign The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 114 Oakville and Branch 486 Bronte, kicked off their annual Poppy Campaigns last Friday. The campaign honours those who serve and raises funds to support Veterans and their families and continues through Remembrance Day on Nov. 11. During the Poppy Campaign, thousands of Legion members, from coast to coast, volunteer their time to distribute poppies and raise millions to support Canada's veterans. While the poppies are distributed freely, the legions accept donations to the Poppy Fund. Residents can support local veterans by wearing a poppy, attending a Remembrance Day ceremony and showing recognition for those who gave their lives for freedom. Through Poppy Fund donations, Legions provide financial assistance to serving and former Canadian Armed Forces personnel and their families who need it. Grants are available for food, heating costs, clothing, prescription medication, medical appliances and equipment, essential home repairs and emergency shelter or assistance. For information about the local Legions, or donation information, visit www. oakvillelegion114.ca and www.brontelegion. com. edition of the Oakville Beaver.
