New fire station at top of town's to-do list for this year

Halton Hills budget committee approved a $10.4 million capital budget for 2006 at Tuesday meeting. The top four expenditures are: · $1.2 million for a Georgetown South satellite fire station-- location still to be determined · $1.1 million for pavement management projects (Acton roads in the Bower Ave. area is the focus this year) · $1 million on the realignment of Fifth Line in the 401 Corridor · $800,000 for rehabilitation (stabilization of slopes) of the East West

(Credit River) tributary in the Hall Rd. area · $500,000 for Phase 2 of the Acton Sports Park ($100,000 to be donated by the Acton Soccer Club) Other work to be done this year includes: · Acton Skateboard Park, ($204,000, again with $100,000 contributed by Acton Sports Action Park committee) · Installation of a leash-free zone in Cedarvale Park ($18,000, $3,000 donated by a community group, HHDog)

· Playground installation at Tanner Dr. Park ($69,000) and Arbor Glen parkette ($65,000) · $190,000 for the second phase of the Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw-- a new bylaw program to replace aged, outdated ones · $110,000 for a new firefighter training facility at the Trafalgar Rd. public works yard · $500,000 for reconstruction of Eastern Ave. in Acton · Surface treatment of Sixth Line (completed in 2006) and Third Line (completed in 2007)
