Applications being taken for awards

Halton Region is accepting applications for the Halton Environmental Awards program from now until March 3. The initiative consists of the Halton Youth Awards for Environmental Excellence and the Halton Environmental Scholarship Awards. The youth awards, which are open to all Halton elementary and secondary students, provide an opportunity for pupils to win $500 for their school. Those who are pursuing postsecondary studies with an emphasis on the environment are eligible to receive a scholarship award of $500. Submissions for either award require an essay of 500 to 800 words. Applicants can submit their essays at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd., Oakville. Award winners will be invited to the Bell/Chairman's Breakfast on the Environment April 21. The Region presents the breakfast and awards program in conjunction with the Chairman's Round Table on the Environment-- a working group involving individuals from the corporate and community sectors.
