The Annual General Meeting for the Acton Seniors Centre is on Tuesday, February 28 at 1 p.m. Please try to attend as it is very important that you know what is happening at your centre. I see quite a few new faces and names and hopefully they will come out too. It will be a short meeting, followed by the Hee Haw Band and refreshments. The Nomination Committee of Donna Rowley and Margaret Anderson have been very busy trying to find suitable people to fill the vacant positions on the board and committees. When you start your spring cleaning, don't forget the Spring Fling on Saturday, March 17, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will not be having Grannie's Attic as such, but are looking for gently used books, jigsaw puzzles and games. These and any crafts you might like to donate can be brought to the centre the week of March 13-17. The Country Store is looking for new items worth at least $2 and they can be brought to the centre at any time, unwrapped and marked attention: Pat Patterson for Country Store. If you are wondering what the new spring fashions and colours will be this year, you can get a preview on March 21, 2 p.m. We will be hosting a fashion show featuring our own models and outfits by Alia of Milton. Those who came to the last one, know what lovely clothes they have and I know quite a few ladies used their 10 per cent off coupons last year to purchase some very smart outfits. I seem to be stuck in the spring them since my little mystery trip away. It's not a mystery anymore. Our final stop was in Cincinnati and all 620 people on the 12 blue coaches from The Great Canadian Coach Company had a great time. I have never seen so many white-haired people all enjoying themselves. One lady who lives on the river in Cincinnati actually e-mailed Great Canadian to find out what all the people from Canada were doing in the depths of winter in Cincinnati. She must have thought we were all mad, especially when she heard that we had no idea where we were going until the buses stopped. Fern Jory has just reminded me that the Wine Club is getting ready to bottle their Spring wine. You must place your order with Vintneers on Mill St. in Acton before February 28 and say, "It's for bottling with the seniors on April 12". This way you will have a supply of delicious wine ready for Easter. If you would like to know a little more about the centre and events happening, we do have lots of extra copies of the newsletter, which also includes a two-month calendar of events. The person at the front desk would be happy to give you one. Fifty members still haven't picked theirs up. Please make arrangements to get yours. If you can't get to the centre perhaps a neighbour would pick it up and deliver it to you. Eileen Dix tells me everything is set for the Income Tax clinic being held on Tuesday, March 28 and Tuesday, April 11 at the centre. This service is open to members of the centre or seniors, 65 years of age or older. There is no charge for this service, and the volunteers who prepare your income tax return are trained by Revenue Canada. If you are interested, you must call Eileen, 519-853-0493 for an appointment. Please note the March Rama trip will be on a Thursday just for this month (March 29). If you would like to go to Rama, sign up on the sheet or call Ruth, 519-853-5124.
