At the recent Crime Stoppers Appreciation Dinner at Zio's Restaurant in Georgetown, longtime Halton Police officer Rod Cliffe was honoured with an award named in his honour, for his significant work in setting up the Crime Stoppers program on a national level, with help from Insp. Dave Durant of the OPP. The program was set up in 1995 after Cliffe and Durant suggested a common national toll free phone number would simplify and streamline the program. On hand for the presentation were from left, Glenn Matsuo (Chair, Crime Stoppers of Halton Inc.), Insp. Dave Durant (OPP), Sgt. Rod Cliffe, and Halton Police Chief Ean Algar. That same evening, Algar was honoured with a plaque as he prepares to retire and Sam Govas of Ares Restaurant was also recognized for hosting the kickoff breakfast for the annual RACE (Ride Against Crime Everywhere) fund-raiser.
