On Sunday, March 26, St. Andrew's United Church will host its annual Spaghetti Supper to help save the lives of people living in landmine-affected areas. While dining together on spaghetti, salads, and desserts, area residents can join in a global event, known as "Night of a Thousand Dinners" to raise awareness and resources for the international landmine crisis. Everyone is welcome to attend this event, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12, and $15 per family. St. Andrew's is located at 89 Mountainview Rd. S. in Georgetown. Every year, approximately 20,000 people are killed or maimed by landmines, and according to UNICEF, 30-40% of all mine victims are children. There are currently 50-80 million active landmines buried in the ground of more than 80 countries. Proceeds from St. Andrew's Spaghetti Supper will go to the global Adopt-A-Minefield campaign to remove landmines and assist landmine survivors.
