The Business and Professional Women's Association (BPW) of Halton will be hosting a forum focusing on the reasons behind the current lack of female representation in government on Wednesday, April 5. The forum will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Rattlesnake Golf and Country Club in Milton. Women need to identify the impediments to their participation in government and develop strategies to overcome them. Women have a lot to offer-- they would make government more open, and they are overwhelmingly in touch with the needs and aspirations of their communities, says a BPW press release. Local politicians participating in the forum will help audience members understand not only the reasons behind this shortage but more importantly ways to develop plans to overcome the deficiency. Come out and hear Halton Hills councillor Jane Fogal, regional councillor Joan Lougheed, and Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale, and other politicians, discuss what can be done to encourage women to enter politics-- at all levels. University of Guelph Professor Judith MacKenzie will moderate the discussion. Come on out and let's see if answers can be found. Due to limited seating please RSVP to Pat Dunwoody at pdunwoody@ifdsgroup.com or 416)-506-8057, or Jan Mowbray at Mowbrayj@sympatico.ca as soon as possible. The cost is just $10 at the door with pre-registration.
