Moore 15th at Commonwealth Games

Georgetown resident Amy Moore was one of four Canadian cyclists to crack the top 20 in the women's road race last Sunday, the the final day of competition at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.

Moore, 32, finished 15th overall over the 100-km race course in a pack of riders three minutes and 24 seconds behind winner Natalie Bates of Australia. The Canadians, missing top rider Lyne Bessette due to a shoulder injury suffered last week, just missed getting to the podium as Gina Grain placed fourth. "The Australians at this time of the year were incredibly strong, having just finished their summer season," said Moore, who was competing in her first Commonwealth Games

"We worked hard throughout the race and put Gina in good positioning for the final sprint. It was an amazing experience and the city of Melbourne put on an incredible show. There were over 15,000 volunteers-- all with a smile and a willingness to help out." A member of the T-Mobile pro cycling team, which has several of the world's top riders in its fold, Moore will come home for a couple of days before going to Europe for a series of races. She'll return to North America for a World Cup race in Montreal in late May.
