April brings Showers Luncheon -- and `all you can eat' pancake breakast

At last we are into the month of April. In spite of a mild winter, it has seemed like a long time coming. Those of you with gardens and lawns will be itching to get out and do the spring cleanup. If you haven't been doing a lot of exercise in the last couple of months, take it easy. Them old bones just ain't what they used to be. With April comes Easter and the April Showers Luncheon on Tuesday, April 11. Make sure you sign up. Entertainment after lunch will be a visit from the ladies of "Sunset Lodge" (Drama Club). This is followed on Saturday, April 22 with the "All you can eat pancake breakfast". For a mere $5 you can get your fill of pancakes, sausages, maple syrup, juice, tea or coffee. It's got to be one of the best deals in town! All proceeds to the Georgetown Senior Centre. Invite your family, neighbours and friends to this great feast. Please note that the date for the Annual Garage Sale has been changed to Saturday, May 6. This is your opportunity to get rid of all those treasures you have been storing up for years. You don't need them, you don't use them, get rid of them at last. Then you won't feel so badly when you come to the Yard Sale and buy someone else's treasures. Please no clothing or shoes. Just as we change over the years so do our driving habits and the rules of the road. Taking all these factors into consideration, a "Senior Driver Refresher Course" is being offered again at the Centre. This course is given in two classes: Session 1 on Friday, April 21 and 28, Session 2 on Friday, May 5 and 12. Most of our errors are bad habits we have developed over the years. Upon completion of this course you will be able to correct these bad habits and have a better understanding of road and driving laws. The cost is $72 per person and you should register at the front desk of the Centre. It is nice to see Cynthia back at her position in the Craft Room. It is when we have been away for a while that we realize how important the Seniors Centre is in our lives. A wonderful reason to get out and lend your support in whatever way possible. Playoffs for the Ontario Senior Games have begun. Carpet Bowling took place on Saturday, April 1. First place went to Bob Brown and June Gilson. Second place to Marilyn Mason and Gwen Weham. Third place was won by JD Hewitt and Caroline Willis. These players will move on to the Regionals to be held in Georgetown on May 29. In Cribbage, played on March 30, Norma Titus and Lloyd Broostead, Mabel Hives and Gord Morton, Gratia Hillier and Norah Emery, Gerry Kroegen and Mary Walsma won the right to represent Georgetown Seniors in the regional finals. Because only three teams signed up for the euchre playoff, all three will attend regional finals. They are Florance Carswell and Margaret Stronziewilk, Mabel Hives and Gord Morton, Gratia Hillier and Norma Emery. Congratulations and good luck to all. Come out to the Georgetown Seniors Centre.
