Earth Day is approaching and the Litter Free Halton Hills Task Force is looking for support from area businesses, institutions and individuals to help clean up Halton Hills. The Second Annual Halton Hills 20 Minute Makeover will be on Friday, April 21 at 2 p.m. Businesses, institutions and schools involved with the 20 Minute Makeover will be sending employees and students out into their neighbourhood areas to

clean up litter. Although the 20 Minute Makeover was considered a success in its first year, the committee is looking for further participation, particularly in the industrial areas. "Our commercial and industrial areas need to be cleaned up," said Jane Fogal, town councillor and chair of the Litter Free Halton Hills Task Force. "It leaves a poor impression on the town to leave trash lying in such areas." The committee is looking for businesses of all sizes to sign up to participate in the event.

"The scope is from very large to very small. Some of the businesses participating are only one or two person operations," said Fogal. The Halton Hills Sixth Annual Community Clean Up Day will follow the 20 Minute Makeover on Saturday April 22. The committee is encouraging individuals and organizations to register and clean up an area of town that is particularly important to them. "We are looking for individuals, families, environmental clubs and community organizations to register to clean up parks, ravines or rural streets. Anywhere that is

important to them," said Fogal. The Town doesn't have the staff available to clean up all areas that have litter left behind by melted snow, so volunteers are needed to make a difference. High school students can register to use hours put into the Community Clean Up Day towards their required volunteer hours. The Town will make arrangements to pick up the collected litter for groups that register. The accumulated litter can also be dropped off at the Town Works Yard between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

on April 22. Refreshments supplied by Tim Hortons will be available. Free garbage bags and gloves are available from the Town Works Yard, the BIA office in Acton and the Chamber of Commerce office at 328 Guelph St. in Georgetown. Businesses, organizations and individuals wishing to participate are encouraged to contact the Town Public Works Department, 905-877-2601 ext. 2610 to register and for further information.
