Learning in space

About 300 Georgetown District High School science and tech students in Grades 11-12 recently had the opportunity to sit in on a teleconference involving Canadian astronaut Dr. David Williams as he performed space equipment testing and later took questions from his inquisitive audience. GDHS was just one of three Ontario schools and 10 across Canada who were linked up to the learning pilot conference, which was sponsored in part by the Canadian Space Agency and NASA. Students were encouraged to submit questions for Dr. Williams and one GDHS student, Daniel Stepner, had his answered. GDHS teacher Olga Michalopoulos said she's hopeful that there will be future opportunities for students to participate in such educational teleconferences, perhaps even involving passive experiments on the Space Shuttles.
