Silver Creek Public School in Georgetown captured an `Eddie' award last week for its submission to the Halton District School Board's fifth-annual student film festival's Gala Awards Night at E.C. Drury in Milton. Silver Creek won its award in the elementary school documentary category for the film The Barber Family. Participating students in the Silver Creek project were Rebecca Schwegler, Ashley Best, Jenna Cameron, Rhianna Malcolm, Alysia Graham and Meaghan Buy. "The Eddies is our version of the Oscars," said Jeff Bowman, Communications and Multi-Media Adminstrator for the HDSB and one of the festival's organizers. "Each year the judges are amazed by the quality of these student-produced films. Students use digital camcorders and do the post-production work on computers, which allow them to develop their visual literacy skills and understanding of film as a communication medium." More than 50 films were entered in this year's competition. The award-winning films are expected to be available for viewing at www.theeddies.ca by the end of June.
