Starting pitcher Kendyl Valenta struck out eight batters over seven innings and walked just two, leading the Halton Hills Bantam Hawks to an 8-4 victory over Ancaster to capture the championship title in the 10th annual tournament they hosted last weekend at Glen Williams. Forty-six teams took part in the 2006 Halton Hills Kerr Machine Shop Group Summer Tournament, which was broken up into six age groups and played at four diamonds around the area. Jaimie Campbell was an offensive catalyst for the bantam Hawks, nearly hitting for the cycle, with a homer, triple and single, while Tori Marcil made an unassisted double play to end the fourth inning that snuffed out an Ancaster rally. The MVP for the final, Anna Smelsky, knocked out a key triple for a two-hit game. Preliminary round-- Halton Hills 6, Byron 1: Taylor Box (MVP). Ancaster 5, Halton Hills 1: Caitlin Sunnucks (MVP).
