Georgetown's Pearson looks ahead to 2007

It's been a whirlwind summer for Georgetown's Kyle Pearson on the Canadian BMX racing circuit and the 15-year-old has clinched a spot on the start line for next year's world championships in Victoria, B.C. July 27-29. Representing Milton's Track 2000, Pearson took fourth place in the 15-16 age group at the recent Canadian meet in Abbotsford, B.C., with the top eight qualifying for the 2007 worlds. The Grade 10 Christ the King student was a double gold medalist at both the Kingston provincial championships and the Ontario Summer Games in Ottawa, dominating the heats and finals. Younger riders from Halton Hills also fared well at the Ontario Cycling Association finals at Kingston, with Troy Bishop earning top spot in the under-8 boys' novice race. Georgetown's Adam Lane raced to victory in the boys' under-10 boys' expert category while Noah Lane finished third in the under8 boys' intermediate division.

How does a teenager take a break from the rough-and-tumble sport of BMX racing? For local resident Kyle Pearson, that means playing football at Christ the King High School this fall. The 15-year-old racing phenom mined gold medals at the Ontario Summer Games and the provincial championships this past summer, and has earned a spot in next year's world championships in Victoria, B.C.

Troy Bishop's eighth birthday is coming up shortly and he already has dreams of riding for Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the newly-introduced sport of BMX racing, thanks to his national title victory recently in B.C.
