Town to review traffic jams in Norval

Commuter traffic using shortcuts through Norval neighbourhoods is causing headaches for the hamlet's residents, and Halton Hills council sought to find a remedy at a recent meeting. During rush hours drivers have been using narrow local streets such as Noble, King and Green streets to avoid the traffic jams at the intersection of Guelph St. and Adamson St. (Winston Churchill Blvd.). Council approved a Joan Robson resolution calling on Engineering staff to do a traffic study of the Guelph St. and Adamson St. area, liaise with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Peel and Halton Regions staff to improve the traffic signal timing at that intersection. Other possible solutions include part-time intersection turning prohibitions on Guelph St. or Adamson St., and creation of cul-de-sacs on Noble and King/Green Sts. Halton Regional Police will also be requested to increase its patrols in the area during peak morning and evening hours. "This has been a fair time coming," said Robson. "We have looked at it very closely before delivering it to council. There are a lot of longstanding issues addressed (by her resolution) for the people of Norval."
