Firefighters encourage schools to take part in world's largest fire drill

Halton Hills firefighters are encouraging every school in town to participate in the world's largest fire drill Wednesday. They challenge everyone to get safely out of school sometime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day. "This is the nation's only and the world's largest school fire drill," said fire safety technician David Bouskill. "Over one million children and teachers evacuated their schools safely in last year's drill." He said firefighters are available to drop by the schools and watch the fire drills, as long as a representative from the school calls the department a few days in advance. "Let our children play a role in setting the record right! Sound the alarm and open the doors to safety," said Bouskill. Schools are encouraged to participate and register after completing the drill. Participants will have a chance to win one of three cash prizes for $1,000, $500 or $250. Classes are encouraged to visit the Kid's Corner at www.firesafetycouncil.com to be eligible to win valuable prizes.
