Library branch staff excited to be part of anniversary celebration

For us at the Georgetown branch of the Halton Hills Public Library, the week of October 13-22 is going to be an exciting one. That week, a celebration of the arts will be taking place. For 25 years now, the Georgetown Library has shared a building with the John Elliott Theatre and the Gallery. Needless to say, it has been quite a partnership. We at the library have watched with great interest as many fascinating artists, musicians, thespians and speakers have come to the Gallery and the theatre's stage. And this anniversary week is going to be no exception. Over 10 great performances, art exhibits and workshops have been planned. Here is a short description of just three. On Saturday October 14, you can enjoy the classic jazz of three-time National Jazz Award nominee Alex Pangman. Dubbed "Canada's Sweetheart of Swing", Alex Pangman has performed with many notable musicians including Jeff Healey, Dick Sudhalter, and Chris Whitely. It promises to be a nostalgic evening filled with all the grace and good sounds of the 1920s and 1930s. On Monday, October 16, award-winning science journalist Bob McDonald will be coming to present a fascinating look into Canada's role in scientific research, both in Canada and around the world. publications as The Globe and Mail and Owl Magazine. On Wednesday, October 18, flamenco guitarist and Canadian Independent Music Awards nominee, Jorge Miguel, will be coming to the John Elliott Theatre stage. Miguel is originally from Cadiz, Spain and has trained with some of the masters. He and his group Toma Que Toma will be presenting an evening of authentic flamenco music, song and dance. While attending these events, why not drop in at the library and have a browse? We have all sorts of music CDs including those of Miguel. We also have McDonald's book, Measuring the Earth with a Stick as well as some recordings of his Quirks and Quarks programs.
