Last year's nighttime Santa Parade in Georgetown was such a big hit, organizers have decided to hold it in the evening again this year. The 76th annual Santa Claus Parade, hosted by the Lions Club of Georgetown, will be held Sunday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It `Glow'" will be the parade's theme and floats will be decorated in keeping with that theme. "The response we had from the participants and people along the route (last year) was very, very positive," said Al Watt, chairman of the Lion's Santa Claus Parade. He said they decided to hold the parade on Sunday in respect for Remembrance Day on Saturday. Watt said there are expected to be five bands participating in the parade including the York Steel Lion's Band, Georgetown Pipe Band, Acton Citizens' Band and Royal Canadian Air Cadets 756 Squadron band. Watt said they are expecting approximately 60 entries in total and are encouraging anyone interested to enter a float by October 31. No political or protest group entries will be allowed in the parade. "While there is no entry fees we will certainly entertain a contribution to offset the rising costs of putting on the parade," said Watt. The parade will start at the corner of Guelph St. and Sinclair Ave. and will proceed west along Guelph St. to Mill St., then along Mill St., Charles St. and west on Park St. to the fairgrounds. Watt said to prevent children from running into the road and risk being struck by a vehicle no candy or information will be distributed along the parade route this year. Anyone interested in entering a float in the parade is asked to fill out an entry form (included in the Oct. 13 and Oct. 18 edition of The Independent & Free Press) and mail it to Lions Santa Claus Parade, Box 73, Georgetown, ON, L7G 4T1. Entry forms can also be obtained by calling Watt at 905-877-9896 or El Lloyd at 905-877-6831.
