The Upper Credit Humane Society has had many successes this year in adopting kittens.... 80. Yes 80 have been placed successfully in new families and are purring their way into their new families' hearts! However the UCHS is still housing approximately 40-plus kittens and three mother cats in existing foster homes as well as caring for our "regular" cat population at the Shelter. There is an urgent need for a solid base of volunteer foster homes as kittens are being surrendered or rescued as fast as we can find people to adopt the existing ones. The public at large have turned to us in droves to get help for stray mother cats and their kittens... most of whom have to go into foster care. This will become even more crucial as the cold and freezing weather approaches. The expense for this area of animal care is crippling as all kittens are spayed, neutered, dewormed, vaccinated and this costs many dollars! A foster family would be able to provide a separate room for the cat and kittens i.e. a spare room, mud room, washroom, in which the animals can be isolated away from other family pets. This ensures that the kittens are housed in a quiet environment, with low exposure to germs and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday family life. Foster families with older children or adult-only households are best suited to this task, as toddlers are not suited to the very delicate handling of these tiny creatures. Food, litter pans, bowls, litter etc., and medical care, if needed, will be provided by the UCHS as well as expert advice on each stage of care. Please call the UCHS at 519-9275152 to learn more about the program.
