Local artist and jewelry designer Naomi Assenheim of the Williams Mill is hosting a grand opening of her new studio in the Stone Building on Saturday, Dec. 2. Opal Wing Creations moved into Williams Mill over a year ago, just starting her career in jewelry design and is now celebrating her first year of success as she reopens in a bigger studio. Assenheim's work is organic in nature and features rare and unusual gemstones, many which she and her husband harvest and collect themselves on rock hunts all over Canada. Her creations are designed to nurture the heart and spirit as they are each carefully crafted with special attention to the healing and spiritual aspects of the stones that she chooses. The opening will take place noon to 5 p.m. and will feature her new line called Spirited Jewelry Designs, showcasing her new and exquisite creations in 18kt gold as well as magnificent designs from rare gemstones, a pre-Christmas sale, and a draw for a $50 gift certificate towards a piece of her jewelry. Delectable treats from the Glen Oven Bakery and refreshments will be served. Assenheim also has two guest artists in her studio until January. Anwen Sutherland of Guelph will be featuring unique crochet items, crafted from handspun materials, including funky sweaters, hats, mittens and shawls and April Gates of Haliburton features Black Bird Pottery including goblets, bowls and mugs.
