Police dog sniffs out break-in suspects

Two men are facing charges after Halton Police were called to a Trafalgar Rd. home by the homeowner while a break and enter was in progress. Police say at approximately 12:11 p.m. last Thursday two men parked a van, which had been stolen from another location, behind the house and entered through an unlocked door. Once inside the men took a diamond ring, medication and were attempting to take a large plasma television when the homeowner called police who immediately responded. When they arrived with the canine unit the dog found two men hiding in the crawlspace in the house. They were arrested. Charged with possession of stolen property, break and enter, failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking, failing to comply with a recognizance and use plates unauthorized for a vehicle is Mitchel Carlos Wheeler, 23, of no fixed address. Charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property, use plates unauthorized for a vehicle is Charles George Carpenter, 36, of Mississauga Rd., Brampton. Both men were held for a bail hearing. ··· Due to incorrect information provided by Halton Regional Police, the wrong age of the victim of a violent robbery in Georgetown Jan. 13 was published in the Wednesday, Jan. 17 edition of The Independent & Free Press. The victim was actually a male teenager. Police say the incident occurred at 11 p.m. when the teen was walking home on Princess Anne Dr. from a friend's house. He was jumped from behind by three males who robbed him of his iPod Nano. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
