Hornby man killed after car strikes transport trailer

A Hornby man is dead and a Milton man is facing several charges after an accident on Steeles Ave. at Fifth Line early Friday morning. Halton Police say preliminary investigation revealed the accident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. when a car driven by Dylan Palmer, 31, of Milton, traveling eastbound on Steeles Ave., struck the rear of a stopped transport float trailer, commonly used to move heavy equipment. Jason Wood, 33, of Hornby, who was in the rear passenger seat of the car, was dead at the scene. Police say the right passenger side of the car took the impact of the collision and the front passenger, a 36year-old Milton woman, was seriously injured and taken by air ambulance to Sunnybrook Hospital where Tuesday she remained in stable condition. Steeles Ave. was closed for several hours for the police investigation. Palmer is charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and driving with more than the legal amount of alcohol in his blood. He was held for a bail hearing. Wood is survived by his daughter Victoria, father James and brothers Wayne, Michael and stepsister Megan Rooney. Visitation is today (Wednesday) at the J. Scott Early Funeral Home in Milton from noon until 2 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
