Brian Penman was acclaimed as Conservation Halton's board chair at its inaugural meeting recently. The position isn't a new one for Penman, who served as the Conservation Halton (CH) board chair last year. In total, he has been a director for 27 years including 11 as chair. John Vice, a citizen appointee from Burlington, was acclaimed as vice chair. He's been on the board for three years. The meeting also saw the induction of six new directors to the board, including Milton Councillor Cindy Lunau. The is the first year Milton has been allotted three representatives-- its third is Mayor Gord Krantz-- on the CH board, a change brought about by its increasing population. Also inducted were Councillor David Kentner from Halton Hills, Councillors Peter Thoem and John Taylor from Burlington, Councillor Tom Adams from Oakville and Murray Charlton, a citizen appointee from Hamilton. Councillor Bryan Lewis continues to serves as Halton Hills representative on the board. Five outgoing members were recognized for their dedication to the environmental organization. They were Halton Hills Councillor Bob Inglis, Burlington Councillor Carol D'Amelio and citizen appointees Chris Walker (Burlington), David Patterson (Oakville) and Martin Ince (Hamilton). The 51st inaugural meeting included a presentation on CH's achievements in the past year, marking an end to its milestone 50th anniversary celebrations. The presentation noted many of the programs launched last year will continue due to their popularity.
