Halton PC and Alliance candidates fell to a landslide Liberal (Julian Reed) victory in November. Com bined vote tallies would have put a unified rightwing party less than 500 votes below Liberal support. A rea A lliance supporters haven't been polled on their official opinion of a unification, but there is support for it, Mr. Dobson said. Unification can be difficult if both parties don't agree. Halton PC candi date o f record Tom K ilm er said he w ouldn't consider unification at this time. "W e've had a number o f the PC rid ing associations gather for a m eeting to discuss the direction w e'd like to go. At this point, the message seems to be they (dissident Alliance MPs) are a splinter party and w e'd ju st stay away. T hey've got enough problems -- we don't need to get involved in those." The PC party is in a re-building stage, Kilmer added. Support for the party has been on the rise, jum ping above the Alliance in recent poles. "It's not beyond the scope o f possi bility that the defecting Alliance M Ps will realize they c a n 't get rid o f Stockwell Day. One w ay to do that w ould be to jo in up w ith the Conservatives," K ilm er said.
