Cavaliers tried to ignore score to avoid complacency continued from p.38 points per contest. "If they tried to stop someone, if that person had an off-game, we had four or five other players who could come up with their best games," said Stucke. "It all worked out because we had lots of strong players who contributed." "I really feel that we didn't ride Laeticia and Christina throughout the year. If we were missing anyone else, we really noticed," Bulthuis added. "We all realized that if we played together as a team and didn't worry about how many points we all got, we could be extremely dangerous. It's very rare that I hear anyone talk about how many points they got. They're more concerned with `Who did we beat?', `Who do we play next?' There was very little selfishness." In the Cavaliers' other games at OFSAA, they defeated Oshawa's Monsignor Dwyer 88-40, Belleville's Bayside 77-33, Sault Ste. Marie's Korah 64-33 and Wallaceburg 62-38. King's smallest lead at halftime in those games was an 18-point advantage over Korah. The Cavaliers, who scrimmaged against their school's boys' team many times during the season and also took a squad from Bill Crothers Secondary School's excellence program in a pre-OFSAA tune-up, tried to avoid complacency by ignoring the score. "As soon as we get our eyes off the scoreboard, we just play our defence like it's a two-point game," Amihere said. "Not think it's a blowout. Just keep playing our game." With Amihere currently in Grade 9, Morra in Grade 10 and just two players expected to graduate this year, there's potential for even more blowouts next season. Bulthuis said he's considering trying to qualify for the AAA OFSAA tournament next year. "We'll enjoy this one for a little bit, then have a team meeting and talk to each other about what we want," said the coach. "We won't be as young next year, but we'll still be young. I think there's a general feeling on this team that we want to play against the best, to test ourselves against the best." Other members of the provincial AA champion Cavaliers are Celine Mostert, Ayanna Gooden, Kassidy Austin, Lauren Montenari, Lara Simonot and Marina Youwakim. 39 | Thursday, December 3, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The King's Christian Collegiate girls' basketball team poses with the OFSAA championship banner and trophy Saturday in Kingsville. | photo submitted Hornets' Paniccia earns third shutout in four games Daniela Paniccia made 25 saves for her fourth shutout of the Provincial Women's Hockey League season as the Burlington Barracudas and Oakville Hornets played to a 0-0 tie Tuesday at Joshua's Creek Arenas. The Hornets' Penn State-bound goaltender made 14 saves in the third period and overtime to record her third shutout in her last four starts. She has surrendered just one goal on 80 shots for a .988 save percentage over that span. It was also the 12th shutout of Paniccia's PWHL career, moving her into a share of sixth place on the league's alltime list. Jackie Rochefort is the all-time leader with 16. Oakville is now 12-3-2 and tied for sixth in the PWHL standings, but is just one point back of three teams with a game in hand. Sunday, Oakville beat the first-place Durham West Lightning 2-1 thanks to a pair of goals by Jessica Smith and 23 saves by Nikki Cece. It was just the second regulation loss of the season for the Lightning. Smith had just one goal in her first 13 games but her two on Sunday gave her three in three games. Oakville was outshot 8-2 in the opening period but it was the Hornets' Smith opening the scoring with 3:24 to play in the second. She scored again 7:33 into the third to put Oakville up 2-0. Durham West cut the lead to one midway through the third but Cece stopped 10 shots in the third to preserve the lead. Friday, Cece made 18 saves to shut out Aurora and Maddie Sisokin scored the game's only goal. Oakville hosts the Southwest Wildcats Saturday at Joshua's Creek.
