Sheridan to welcome student refugees next September Sheridan College has partnered with the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) to sponsor student refugees from various countries, including Syria. It plans to welcome its first student in September 2016 through the Student Refugee Program, which was created by WUSC -- a non-profit organization working in international development -- in 1978. "We are pleased to join in this Canadawide effort to extend opportunities to young people who are in desperate need of assistance to create a better future for themselves and their families," said Jeff Zabudsky, Sheridan's president and CEO, in a press release. Depending on the program, the student refugee could be placed at any of Sheridan College's four campuses. There are two in Oakville, one in Brampton and one in Mississauga. Sheridan College is among 65 postsecondary institutions in Canada that have agreed to sponsor students through the WUSC program, which targets students who have been displaced by war or other events, and offers them hope through education.
