www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, December 17, 2015 | 42 Health Local adult group home Grace House recently received a $14,700 boost from 100 Guys Who Care Oakville. The donation came from the group's latest fundraising event in September. "On behalf of the staff and residents at Grace House group home, I would like to extend my sincere thanks for your contribution towards our new beds, microwave, bedding, gift cards, and so on," Grace House director David Klarer said in an email to 100 Guys Who Care Oakville. "Our residents are thrilled, and this is something that we just didn't have the budget to do all at once. Your kindness and generosity... (is) a shining example to the community of what giving is all about. Our parent company, Support and Housing Halton, also recognizes the positive benefit this will have upon our clients." Grace House provides temporary residential accommodation for up to 10 adults as well as counselling and 24-hour supervision in a group co-operative setting. It is open to any adult living with a psychological, psychiatric, emotional, social or moderate physical disability. Founded in 1974, Grace House is a group home in Halton providing 24/7, time-limited supportive, supervised, relationship-based, residential accommodation to adults who require assistance to learn the spectrum of life skills necessary for independent living, according to a media release. The grass-roots "100 Guys Who Care" charity concept has organizations across Canada and the U.S. Donald Belovich and Amir Gorgi, the cofounders of the Oakville chapter, were inspired "Connected to your Community" Grace House gets more than $14K boost from 100 Guys Who Care ... The concept, which was originally founded by women in 2006 in the U.S. and later in Canada in 2012, is to get 100 men to meet once a quarter at a local restaurant or bar for a drink and some networking. Each person who attends donates $100, raising at least $10,000 at each event, which is then donated to a Halton-based charity by popular vote. "All told, we had almost 100 guys come out to the event in person, and more than 40 guys pitched in their donations after the fact. Another phenomenal turnout," said Gorgi. "We are proud to say that since launching in May, we have only had two events, yet we raised more than $28,500, and have a growing membership base of more than 150 guys, making us one of the most successful chapters in North America."
