www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, December 18, 2015 | 2 A Letter from Halton Healthcare's President & CEO On Sunday, December 13, in just over 10 hours, Halton Healthcare successfully transferred over 270 patients from the hospital at 327 Reynolds Street to the new Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) at 3001 Hospital Gate. In total, 28 vehicles (eight of them ambulances) were used for this monumental event. Almost 300 staff, physicians and volunteers were part of this historic day and I was proud of every single individual as I witnessed many acts of kindness, respect and compassion. I would like to offer heartfelt thanks, on behalf of Halton Healthcare to those organizations and people who supported move day: · Health Care Relocations (HCR) for their expertise, careful planning and execution · Halton and Peel Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for their commitment to the safety and care of our sickest patients · RNR Patient Transfer Services for the careful, timely transfer of patients and for their kind assurances to alleviate stress for patients and families Thank You DECEMBER 2015 · Town of Oakville and the Region of Halton for their help with signage, potential snow removal contingency plans and communications with the community · iCare for their generous contribution of hats and mittens for our patients · Scotiabank for their donation of fleece blankets to keep our patients cozy throughout their journey Special thanks go to the army of Halton Healthcare staff, physicians, and Oakville Hospital Volunteers who created an atmosphere filled with care and calm as our first patients arrived in the Emergency Department, babies were welcomed into our new hospital, ICU patients arrived with physicians by their side, and so many more moments of people simply being human beings and doing whatever they could to make every patient comfortable. After 65 years of tremendous service to the community, finally the moment came to say goodbye to what has been our place of care. As I walked through the legacy hospital, on Sunday, I came across a message from a nurse in one of the units written on one of the white boards. I believe this message speaks to how we all feel about celebrating the old and welcoming the new: Joy & Laughter, Sorrow & Tears End of an Era, A new Beginning Sue (1972-2015) On behalf of Halton Healthcare I want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the OTMH Move Day. We have started a new chapter of healthcare in Oakville and will continue to build on our legacy of providing exemplary patient experiences. Denise Hardenne President & CEO
