Predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years William "Bill" McGaw, Aileen is lovingly remembered and missed by their children, Tim, Mark, Shelley and Shannon, along with spouses, 11 grand children, and one great grandchild, all of whom gave them such joy. She is sadly missed by her sister Shirley Lemon (Charles Lemon), brother Clifford Hewitt, sister-in-law Lois Faulkner and her many nieces and nephews from the Hewitt, Lemon, Faulkner and Trumbley families. Born and raised Margaret Aileen Hewitt in Bervie on land pioneered by her family, Aileen eventually attended high school in Kincardine, where she met Bill. She graduated in Honours Latin and French from The University of Toronto (Vic `50) followed by graduate studies at OCE and later received a TESL diploma from the OME. When her children were young, she was energized by teaching Latin and French, and later adored teaching ESL at Sheridan College for 19 years where she also coordinated "The Hungarian Project" under the auspices of the World Bank and The Canadian Dept. of External Affairs. She received the "Sheridan College President's Award of Excellence", and "The NISOD Excellence Award" from The University of Texas at Austin for her exceptional teaching methods. Aileen was dedicated to her ESL students and took them under her wing like family; more formally she founded "Sampan" with Bill and his sister Dorothy to settle and support refugees from Laos. She played the piano beautifully, loved to sing in choirs such as The University Women's Club and as an alto at St. Jude's, and studied cello in later life. Aileen's family wishes to express gratitude to West Oak Village for their cheerful and compassionate care. Giving until the end, Aileen donated her body to the University of Toronto School of Medicine where she will continue to contribute to teaching. Ultimately, she will be laid to rest with Bill in St. Jude's Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
