B4 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday September 5 2001 Car rallies raise over $30,000 for Halton Children's Aid Foundation Twice a year, the Halton Children's Aid Foundation is the recipient of the generosity and efforts of the employees at Acton Precision Millwrights. One Saturday last June, over 80 peo ple gathered at Acton Precision Millwrights (APM) in Acton, to begin an afternoon of fun, intrigue and skilltesting challenges. The event was the Spring Car Rally for the Halton C hildren's Aid Foundation. The rally is carefully craft ed by general manager. Alec Kitson, Bruce Hogg and APM president, Ted Lyons. As cars began their challenging day, they were handed an instruction book let consisting of 10 pages. Armed with everything from dictionaries, pens, pencils, thesaurus, encyclopedia, maps of the world, etc., seasoned participants knew they were headed for a challeng ing yet fun-filled five hours. Cars slowly inspected the country side for answers to clues, tried their skills at various games along the route and once they reached their last clue, they were instructed to turn into a long driveway, 13448 Dublin Dr., which turned out to be the entrance to the Blue Springs Golf and Country Club. An enjoyable sit down dinner was waiting for all the exhausted participants. During dinner, the instruction sheets were marked and by dessert, trophies were handed out to the three cards which placed in the top marks for the day. However, the winner was clearly the Children's Aid. APM has selected as its charity of choice, the Halton Children's Aid Foundation and over the years their supplies, employees and friends have made this event the success it is today, with over $30,000 being raised for the Children's Aid in the past six years. The next car rally is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, and rally organizers are looking forward to another success ful event for the Halton's Aid Foundation. For further information about the car rally or Halton Children's Aid Foundation, call Randy Puma, execu tive director at 905-333-4441 ext. 214.
