McCullagh, who works as a personal injury law clerk, has called Oakville home since 1981. She said she is running for the Ward 2 council seat because she wants to enhance the quality of life for local residents and the quality of the surrounding environment to help make Oakville the most livable town in Canada. The Ward 2 council seat became vacant when former Ward 2 councillor Pam Damoff was elected MP of the new Oakville NorthBurlington riding. Town council has decided to hold a byelection April 11 to fill the seat. "People are the most important element in my plan, working together to act as a team," said McCullagh. She lists preserving and enhancing green spaces and historical places as another priority, as is helping Oakville become a greener city that is more focused on sustainable development. The married, mother of two has been involved in the local community for numerous years --she is a past board member and an active volunteer with the West River Residents' Association. McCullagh ran unsuccessfully for the Ward 2 council seat in 2010, losing to Damoff. If elected, she says this will not be the first time she has served as a representative, noting that while on the board of the Kerr Street BIA she was the voice for a local merchant. McCullagh has also been an active volunteer with the Kerr Street BIA and has been involved with the organizing of the annual Christmas tree lighting, farmers markets, fall festivals and more. She has also served on the Oakville Santa Claus Parade Committee; carried out food and clothing drives and participated in the Coldest Night of the Year walk -- all in support of Kerr Street Mission and Home Suite Hope. McCullagh was recognized for her volunteer work in 2015 when she received a Community Spirit Award from the Town of Oakville.
