www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, February 11, 2016 | 16 Students get involved as Amnimaniacs, The Life Changers continued from p.11 Camo Against Ammo has arranged for a War Child Canada representative to make a presentation at the school in the near future. The third unit, Splish Splash, is supporting WaterAid Canada and has obtained almost $1,200 so far, more than half of its final target ($2,000). The unit went door-to-door to collect coins at the school, held a school-wide Mason jar challenge, which rewarded the top class with a movie day, and organized a pajama day where participating students each contributed $2. Splish Splash is also considering hosting a school dance in April to obtain more funds. Brooklyn Parro, 13, said her group picked WaterAid because it's important for children everywhere to have access to water. Supporting the organization has helped 13-year-old Kaya Zawadzki realize that some countries lack proper sanitation, too. "I never realized that some countries don't have proper sanitation like a bathroom. You learn that very quickly. You learn a lot from the project," said Zawadzki. Group No. 4, The Life Changers, chose to support FTC and organized crazy hair and movie days to raise funds for FTC's pillar of education, collecting $147.75. The fifth faction calls itself Unicycle, which is accumulating money for UNICEF . The group is planning a school spirit day where everyone wears blue, charging $2 per person. The last unit, The Amnimaniacs, selected Amnesty International Canada as its organization. It held a raffle for two donated toys from a local retailer, raising a little more than $88 for Amnesty, and is organizing a spirit day to fetch more funds. In 2015, the school collected more than 200 non-perishable food items on Halloween for the local food bank as part of FTC's We Scare Hunger initiative. Holy Family will soon take part in FTC's We Create Change coin drive. "I would love the kids to go into Grade 9 and 10 and continue with their social justice and spread the word. That's what at least 10 of them do every year. It's really nice," said Delija.
