Murray was blessed with a natural, painless departure, drifting off to his final sleep with family by his side. Beloved husband of 64 years to Doreen (nee Brownlee). Loving father to Karen Legenza, Douglas (Cheryl) McCracken and Stuart (Anne) McCracken. Sadly missed by grandchildren Elizabeth Legenza and her husband Lee Dawson, Katherine McCracken and her husband Michael Medal, Chris McCracken and Patsy McCracken. Loving great-grandfather to Spencer, Harry and Hazel Dawson. Beloved son in law of the late WW2 veteran Harold and Aline Brownlee. Survived by WW2 veteran, older brother Kenneth McCracken. Predeceased by Parkdale icon and true friend Annie Ross (Florist Wing, Heaven). Born in Toronto during the Depression to WW1 and WW2 veteran Frederick and Florence, Murray's young years were in Brighton Ontario, then returning during the war, settling in Parkdale. Here he spent his ample energy driving Henderson motorcycles (with reverse) and rebuilding Model A Fords, He would bicycle Sundays with friends to the Credit River to swim. Murray met Doreen one day as he was changing engines and the rest is history. Married in July 1952, and three children later, the north called. Yearning to be campers, Murray converted their blue VW van into a camper (other tenters were blown away) and off to Algonquin Park the family went. In 1961 they bought a lot on Bella Lake, cleared the necessary area by hand, with help from Harold (Papa) and Aline (Nannie). Murray designed and built a wonderful cottage that stands today. Murray worked countless years for Redirack, Clayson Road. Purchasing a brand new Viceroy cottage in the mid 90's, Murray and Doreen lived out their dream of retiring to Bella Lake. Their lifelong open door and love for fun and mischief has nurtured a wonderful family of dear and loving folks, some building Bella Lake cottages themselves. Murray and Doreen's legacy is the annual McCracken Horseshoe Tournament, originating at their cottage at a time when Paul Henderson scored big goals. With participation growing, the Regatta weekend tournament changed venues and is hosted at the "Pond-a-raso", the home of Angelo and Helen Raso, assisted by Clyde and Barb Crocker. Murray, an innovator and tireless worker loved nature and pets, was always happiest with a beer, a butt and something to feed. Murray has chosen to go to the Anatomy Program at the University of Toronto to join friends Fritz and Uncle Louie in the graduate program. Not bad for a kid from Queen Street West.... We would like to thank the countless doctors and staff at the Toronto General, Western, Sunnybrook hospitals (Internal and Cancer), as well as Doctors Ali, Armogan and Gill at the Mississauga clinic (OCC Eye care) (AMD) without whose talent and efforts, Murray would have lost compete sight in 2008. Together, they provided Murray and our family with 3 to 5 years of bonus time. Locally, a special thanks to Doc Hudson, Jackie and Norma, true and caring professionals. A Celebration of the IRISH ancestry of Murray will be held at the home of Stu and Anne on Saturday February 20, from 2-5 p.m. at 36 East Browns Road, Huntsville Ontario. Your warm memories and great stories will ensure he is present. Dearly missed by her loving husband Edward, daughter Carolyn (Peter), son Wayne and grandson Jesse. Also missed by her siblings, Murray (Pauline), Lorraine (Raymond) and Lynn (Kevin, deceased). She was a beloved elementary teacher in Burlington. Cremation has taken place. Beloved husband of Ofelia (2003) and loving father of Tom and his wife Sue of Oakville. Federico was the much loved Nonno of Andrew and Alyssa. He was the dear brother of sisters Luigia, Noemi and Lidia of Italy and the late Maria (2014) and Gentile (2015) in Ontario. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and their families in Ontario, USA and Italy. James was a World War II veteran, lived in Oakville from the mid 50's to the mid 70's and then returning back to Oakville later in his life. James worked at Gulf Canada for most of his life before retiring at the age of 60 and eventually taking on the job of a school crossing guard in Burlington until he was 85 years old, a job he loved dearly.
