The musical vignette, Meet a Young Artist, is part of the free concert series and will feature Lyndsay Tran and Eric Sheppard. "We're delighted that two of our young musicians will be presenting the mini-concert," the Oakville Symphony Outreach Committee said in a media release. "Thanks to Lyndsay Tran and Eric Sheppard for performing and for sharing their passion for classical music." The young artists for this year's OSO season consist of 10 high school students who auditioned for, and received an award to play with, the orchestra -- the musicians are mentored by senior OSO members. "We love the enthusiasm and energy that these students bring to the concert performances," stated the release. Lyndsay is a Grade 11 White Oaks Secondary School (WOSS) student and started playing the violin when she was six years old. She has played in the Halton youth orchestra and Halton Mississauga youth orchestra for seven years before joining the OSO this year. Lyndsay has completed Grade 8 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Violin and RCM Advanced Rudiments examinations. At WOSS, she plays the French horn and oboe in bands and is the co-chair of the school's Music Council, as well as co-manages the Horn Ensemble group. · · · Eric is a Grade 12 double-bass major at the Etobicoke School of the Arts (ESA) in Toronto -- he plays the double bass for the OSO this year. He is an accomplished composer with works performed by chamber ensembles at ESA and choirs at St. Jude's Anglican Church in Oakville and at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John's, N.L. A recipient of the Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Eric Grade 11 White Oaks Secondary School student Lyndsay Tran and Grade 12 Etobicoke School of the Arts student Eric Sheppard will be the featured performers at the Oakville Symphony Orchestra's Young People's Mini-Concert series tomorrow (Saturday).
